Maths Week 2021

17-October-21

The staff and children of St.Annes's N.S. will be celebrating Maths Week from Monday the 18th of October.. The children will be engaged in numerous fun and engaging maths activities throughout this week. You have previously received correspondence about our Maths Eyes Competition. These entries can be submitted from Monday. Below is a copy of the correspondence.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

In conjunction with Maths Week running from 16th -24th of October, we are going to engage in many activities to help the children to develop “Maths Eyes”. In order to complete these activities successfully we are asking you for some assistance.

Maths Eyes?

Everybody uses mathematics in their life but sometimes they don’t call it mathematics.

Developing mathematical eyes allows children to see the different types of mathematics that they are doing every day.

Having “Maths Eyes” also helps them to understand that mathematics is more than the skills and formulae they might associate with their school experience.

Furthermore, developing “Maths Eyes” encourages discussion about mathematics and language development around mathematics.

We would like your assistance with the following activity:

The activity includes going ‘out and about’, taking photographs using their maths eyes (or if unable to do so cutting out pictures from magazines or downloading pictures from the internet)

The children must compile 3 mathematical questions which are to be written/typed underneath the photos/pictures about the photo or picture they selected.

For display purposes all entries must be submitted to Ms Mc Loughlin (Room 12) or Ms Neenan (Room 2) during Maths Week on A4 paper only.

These Maths Eyes photos/pictures will be displayed in the school corridor.

Further information is available on http://www.haveyougotmathseyes.com.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

Ms. Mc Loughlin & Ms Neenan
